FREEDOM STREET

The first Perth screening of Freedom Street, a documentary by Alfred Pek.

Tickets include a delicious snack made by the FareGo team, the CARAD-run social enterprise serving up delicious cultural comfort food and empowering refugees and asylum seekers through employment.

Freedom Street is the story of Joniad, Ashfaq and Azizah, three refugees stuck in Makassar, Indonesia for several years as a result of Australia’s border policy. Freedom Street presents the refugees’ stories while deconstructing Australian policy in a series of conversations with experts. The documentary highlights the cost of Australia’s undemocratic policies both on the refugees and the Australian taxpayer while urgently sounding the alarm for meaningful and humane solutions to an ever-worsening issue.

Portraying the stories of Refugees & Asylum Seekers

You are invited to the opening of Sid Pattni’s debut solo exhibition, ‘The Story of Us’.

The exhibition features mixed-media portraits of refugees and asylum seekers that Sid has met and interviewed over the past nine months. The unique multi-sensory works shed light on the struggles and triumphs of refugees, as well as the resilience and humanity that lies at the heart of their experiences.

Opening at the start of National Refugee Week, the exhibition will be held at Cleaver Street & Co. and will be officially opened by Helen Mathie (Minderoo Foundation).

This is a unique opportunity to experience the transformative power of art and to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing refugees in Australia.
